Which Car Detailing Package Do You Need? An Honest Guide

Maintenance, Exterior, Interior, Complete or Premium Restoration? How to match a detailing package to your vehicle's condition, with prices and times.

The detailing package you need depends on two things: the condition your vehicle is in right now, and whether the inside, the outside or both need the work. For most vehicles in reasonable shape, the Complete Detail is the usual first recommendation. Vehicles already in manageable condition fit a Maintenance Detail, and those with heavy pet hair, embedded sand, old stains or a long gap since the last proper clean usually need a Premium Restoration Detail.

Below is a plain explanation of each Highness Mobile Detailing package: what it includes, what it costs for each vehicle size, how long it takes and what it will not do. The aim is to help you pick the right one the first time, without paying for work you do not need or booking a light service for a heavy job.

Key takeaways

  • Choose by condition, not price. Each package is built around a set amount of time.
  • The Complete Detail ($299, $349 or $399, about 3.5 hours) covers inside and out and is the usual first recommendation.
  • The Maintenance Detail is upkeep for vehicles in manageable condition, not for heavy soiling, stains or embedded pet hair.
  • The Premium Restoration Detail is the only package with a clay bar treatment, and it adds shampoo treatment and extraction of seats, carpets and mats.
  • Paint correction and ceramic coating are separate services that start with a $50 inspection or estimate appointment.

Why should you start with condition, not price?

When people choose a car detailing package, the first instinct is often to pick the lowest price and hope it covers everything. The trouble is that every package is built around a set amount of time.

A Maintenance Detail runs about 2 hours and assumes the vehicle is already in manageable shape. If the carpet is full of sand and dog hair, much of that time goes to vacuuming, and the rest of the car gets less attention than it should.

Before you choose, answer these honestly:

  • When was the vehicle last properly cleaned inside and out, not just run through a wash?
  • Is pet hair woven into the carpet or seats?
  • Is there sand in the carpet backing, seat rails or trunk?
  • Are there set-in stains on fabric seats, carpet or headliner?
  • Is there an odor from smoke, mildew, spilled food or pets?
  • Does the paint feel rough or look dull even right after a wash?
  • Is there biological contamination such as vomit, mold or an animal accident?

Heavy pet hair, embedded sand, severe stains, biological contamination and general neglect all add work. When you book, share a few photos and details so the job can be matched to the right package before anyone arrives.

Prices are set by vehicle size: Sedan/Coupe, SUV/Truck or Van/XL. If you are not sure which class your vehicle falls into, ask when you book.

Maintenance Detail: is your vehicle already in good shape?

The Maintenance Detail is upkeep, not recovery. It includes an interior vacuum of seats, carpets, floors and trunk, a wipe-down of the dashboard, center console and accessible hard surfaces, spotless windows and mirrors, a careful exterior hand wash and dry, cleaned wheels and tires, tire dressing and a final quality inspection.

It fits a vehicle that was detailed properly in the last couple of months, a garage-kept car that does not see much mess, or anyone who wants a regular visit to keep things from sliding.

It is not the right choice for heavy soiling, stains, embedded pet hair or a neglected interior. There is not room in a two-hour appointment for that kind of work.

Exterior Detailing: is the outside the main problem?

Exterior Detailing focuses entirely on the outside. It includes a high-pressure pre-rinse and complete hand wash, hand drying with clean microfiber towels, bug, tar and iron decontamination, cleaned wheels and tires, wheel and tire dressing, spotless windows and mirrors, a high-quality paint sealant and a final exterior inspection.

Choose it when the interior is in decent shape but the outside is not. Typical signs are lovebug residue across the front end, a salt film on a car that parks near the coast, or brake dust baked onto the wheels.

What it is not: clay bar or machine polishing.

If the paint still feels rough after a wash, bonded contamination may call for the Clay Bar Treatment add-on, priced on inspection. Exterior Detailing does not remove swirl marks, haze or scratches. That is paint correction, covered further down.

Interior Detailing: does the cabin need the work?

Interior Detailing gives the cabin about 2.5 hours of focused attention. It includes:

  • A comprehensive vacuum of seats, carpets, mats, trunk and crevices
  • High-temperature steam cleaning and sanitization
  • Deep cleaning of the dashboard, console, cup holders and door panels
  • Disinfected air vents and UV protectant on all hard surfaces
  • Cloth seats shampooed, or leather seats cleaned and conditioned
  • Interior glass and mirrors, cleaned door jambs and a final interior inspection

This suits family vehicles, commuters who eat on the road, rideshare drivers and anyone whose car looks fine from the driveway but not from the driver’s seat. If the exterior was washed recently and holds up well, there is no reason to pay for exterior work you do not need.

A word on stains: cleaning improves most everyday stains, but some will not come out completely, especially old ones, dye transfer or anything soaked into the seat foam.

For widespread staining, the Shampoo Treatment and Extraction add-on treats seats, carpets and mats more deeply. Stains may lighten without fully disappearing.

Complete Detail: why is it the usual first recommendation?

The Complete Detail covers the interior and exterior in a single visit of about 3.5 hours. For most customers booking for the first time, it is where we suggest starting. It resets the whole vehicle and sets a baseline you can maintain afterward.

InsideOutside
Full vacuum, including cracks and crevicesPre-rinse, wash and dry
Steam cleaning and sanitizationBug, tar and iron decontamination
All hard surfaces cleanedWheels, tires and wheel wells cleaned
Seat deep cleaning: leather cleaned and conditioned, or upholstery shampooed or steamedWheel and tire dressing
Air vents disinfected and UV protectant appliedFuel door cleaned
Door jambs cleanedSpotless windows and mirrors
Interior glassPaint sealant lasting up to 6 months

It finishes with a final inspection inside and out. It does not include a clay bar treatment.

There is a simple cost logic too.

For a sedan, the Complete Detail is $299. Booking Exterior Detailing and Interior Detailing separately would be $348. If one side of the vehicle needs especially deep work, booking that service on its own gives it the full appointment.

Premium Restoration Detail: does your vehicle need more?

The Premium Restoration Detail takes about 6 hours. It includes everything in the Complete Detail, plus:

  • Shampoo treatment and extraction of seats, carpets and mats
  • More intensive hard-surface cleaning and scrubbing
  • Clay bar treatment of all painted surfaces
  • A single-pass machine wax and buff
  • A documented before-and-after condition review and photography

It is the right call when the vehicle has not been properly detailed in a year or more, pet hair is embedded deep in the carpet and upholstery, sand has worked into the carpet backing and seat tracks, you bought a used vehicle and want a clean start, or you are getting ready to sell.

Be clear about its limits.

It is still not paint correction, so swirls and scratches in the clear coat stay unless you book that service. Like any detail, it improves stains and odors rather than promising to remove every one. Damage such as a sun-cracked dash or a burn hole in a seat is repair work, not cleaning.

Which add-ons fill a specific gap?

Sometimes the package is right and only one thing needs extra attention. Prices are Sedan / SUV / Van unless noted.

Add-onPriceNotes
Pet Hair Removal$75, all sizesSevere embedded hair is quoted after photo review
Shampoo Treatment and Extraction$95 / $125 / $150Seats, carpets and mats. Included in Premium Restoration
Ozone TreatmentFrom $85 / $110 / $145Reduces odors. Complete elimination is not promised
Headlight Restoration$120, all sizesFor yellowed or cloudy lenses
Engine Bay Cleaning and Dressing$90, all sizesCosmetic, not mechanical service
Plastic Trim Restoration$80 / $105 / $135For faded exterior trim
Windshield Coating$120, all sizesWater-beading coating that lasts up to 24 months, about 45 minutes
Child Seat Cleaning$50About 30 minutes
Wax and Buffing by Machine$80 / $100 / $120Enhances gloss, does not remove swirls or scratches
Clay Bar TreatmentPriced on inspectionIncluded in Premium Restoration, can be added to other packages

A useful rule: if you need one add-on, keep the package. If you find yourself adding three or four, a Premium Restoration Detail may fit the vehicle better.

Are paint correction and ceramic coating separate decisions?

Yes. No package includes paint correction or a ceramic coating. The Premium Restoration Detail includes a single-pass machine wax and buff, which enhances gloss but is not paint correction.

Paint correction starts from $499 for a sedan, $649 for an SUV or truck and $799 for a van, after a $50 inspection and estimate appointment of about 30 minutes. It uses machine polishing to reduce swirls, haze and eligible defects within the clear coat. It cannot fix defects deeper than the clear coat, or failed or thin paint.

Ceramic coating starts from $799, $999 or $1,199 by size, after a $50 estimate appointment. It is not scratch-proof, not chip-proof, not maintenance-free and not a replacement for paint correction.

A quick way to decide

  1. The vehicle was detailed recently and is in manageable condition: Maintenance Detail.
  2. Only the outside needs work: Exterior Detailing.
  3. Only the inside needs work: Interior Detailing.
  4. Both need work and the condition is normal for a daily driver: Complete Detail.
  5. It has been a long time, or there is heavy pet hair, sand or staining: Premium Restoration Detail.
  6. You see swirls or haze, or you want longer-term protection: book an inspection or estimate for paint correction or ceramic coating.

FAQ

What if I pick the wrong package?

Photos and details at booking prevent most mismatches. If the vehicle turns out to need more than the package allows, a different package or an add-on may fit better.

Is the Premium Restoration Detail worth it over a Complete Detail?

Only if the vehicle needs it. On a car in normal condition, the Complete Detail covers what matters. The extra time in Premium Restoration pays off on neglected vehicles, heavy pet hair, embedded sand and used cars you have just bought.

Can detailing remove every stain and odor?

No. Most everyday stains and odors can be reduced, often a lot. Some, especially old stains, dye transfer and odors soaked into foam or the headliner, may only improve.

Where does the work happen?

At your home or workplace in Palm Beach County. If you live in a condo, apartment or HOA community, check that on-site detailing is allowed first.
