How to Prepare for Mobile Detailing: A Practical Checklist

Most of the prep for a mobile detail is information, not cleaning. Here is what to sort out before we arrive so the appointment starts on time.

To prepare for mobile detailing, you mostly need to sort out information, not cleaning. Confirm that detailing is allowed where the car will be parked, go over water, power and space needs when you book, take out your valuables, and be honest about pet hair, odors and stains. You do not need to wash the car first.

Key takeaways

  • Most of the prep is information: location rules, access details and the car’s real condition.
  • Check condo, apartment, HOA or office rules before you book.
  • Empty the cabin and trunk so every surface can be reached. You do not need to vacuum or wipe anything.
  • Describe pet hair, odors and stains honestly, because condition affects time and price.
  • Weather can move exterior work, and payment is made on site after the work is done.

Most of the problems that slow a mobile appointment down have nothing to do with dirt. They come from a gate code nobody mentioned, a condo rule against washing in the lot, a trunk full of boxes, or a pet hair situation that was described as “a little.”

Each of those is easy to handle in advance and harder to handle once the detailer is standing next to the car. This checklist follows the order you will run into things, so the appointment starts on time and the work gets done properly.

When should you book, and which package fits?

You can book online at any time. We work every day from 7:30 AM to 7:30 PM.

When you pick a time, think about where the car will be at that hour. A morning slot at home is often easier than an afternoon slot in a busy office lot.

Pick the package that matches the car’s real condition. If you are not sure, our article on which car detailing package you need explains the differences. The pricing page lists every package and add-on by vehicle size: Sedan/Coupe, SUV/Truck or Van/XL.

PackageApproximate timeSedan/CoupeSUV/TruckVan/XL
Exterior Detailing1 hour 45 minutes$149$179$219
Maintenance Detail2 hours$129$159$189
Interior Detailing2.5 hours$199$249$299
Complete Detail3.5 hours$299$349$399
Premium Restoration Detail6 hours$499$599$699

The Maintenance Detail is meant for cars already in manageable condition. It is not designed for heavy soiling, stains, embedded pet hair or neglected interiors.

Is detailing allowed where your car will be parked?

Because Highness Mobile Detailing comes to you, the location is part of the job. We work at homes and workplaces across Palm Beach County. There is no storefront and no drop-off.

Condos, apartments and HOAs

Many communities in South Florida have rules about washing or servicing vehicles on the property. Some allow it anywhere. Some allow it only in certain spots or at certain times. Some do not allow it at all.

Check with your property manager or HOA before you book. It takes one email or phone call and saves you a cancelled appointment or a notice on your door.

Office parking lots

If the car will be at work, make sure your building or property manager is fine with it. Let us know the parking level or row, and whether a garage has height limits or restricted access.

Space around the vehicle

We need room to open every door fully and walk all the way around the car. A car pinned between a wall and another vehicle is hard to detail well.

If you can, park with some clear space on each side. If there is shade or a covered spot available, mention it.

Access details

Add gate codes, guard instructions, visitor parking rules and the exact spot to your booking notes. “Silver SUV in space 214, second level” is far more useful than an address alone. Our service areas page lists the communities we cover.

What about water, power and site requirements?

What a detail needs on site depends on the service and the location. A full exterior job is different from an interior-only detail, and a private driveway is different from a parking garage. Go over water, power and space needs when you book, so both sides know what is available before the day.

Be specific. Tell us where the nearest outdoor spigot or outlet is, if there is one, and whether you are allowed to use it. If you are not sure what your location allows, say so.

It is much easier to adjust the plan, the service or the spot during booking than at the start of the appointment. If the requirements for a particular service cannot be met at your location, we will talk through the options with you rather than start a job we cannot finish properly.

What should you remove from the car?

A detailer cleans around what is in the car, which means less of the car gets cleaned. Clearing the cabin and trunk lets us reach seat tracks, door pockets, cargo floors and the gaps where sand and crumbs collect. It also keeps your belongings safe and in your hands.

Before the appointment, take out:

  • Cash, cards, checks and wallets
  • Phones, tablets, laptops, chargers and cables
  • Paperwork and mail you would rather not have handled
  • Sunglasses, jewelry, spare keys and garage remotes
  • Gym bags, groceries, tools, sports gear and anything loose in the trunk
  • Trash, bottles and fast food bags
  • Child seats, if you want the seat under them cleaned and you are comfortable reinstalling them

If the child seat itself needs attention, Child Seat Cleaning is available as an add-on for $50, and it takes about 30 minutes.

You do not need to vacuum or wipe anything. Just empty it. If there is something you want left exactly where it is, such as a toll transponder or a phone mount, tell us at the start.

Why should you mention pet hair, odors and stains?

This is the step people skip most, and it matters the most for time and price. Heavy pet hair woven into carpet, sand packed into floor mats, severe stains, mildew, smoke odor and biological contamination all take extra time and sometimes extra tools. A vehicle that has been neglected for a long time is a different job from one that gets cleaned every few months.

Describe the car honestly when you book and send photos if we ask. That lets us plan the right amount of time and quote the right add-ons:

Add-onSedan/CoupeSUV/TruckVan/XLWhat to expect
Pet Hair Removal$75$75$75Severe embedded hair is quoted after photo review
Shampoo Treatment and Extraction$95$125$150Seats, carpets and mats; stains may lighten without fully disappearing
Ozone Treatmentfrom $85from $110from $145Reduces odors; complete elimination is not guaranteed

We will also be straight with you about limits. Some stains set into fabric over months or years. Some odors live in places a detail cannot reach. Detailing often improves both, sometimes a lot, but we will not promise that every mark or smell will be gone.

If you want to know more before you book, read our guide to car odor removal.

How does weather affect a mobile detail?

South Florida weather changes fast. Rain, direct sun, wind and humidity can all affect a detail, especially exterior work, paint correction and ceramic coating.

  • Washing a hot panel in full sun can leave spots.
  • Wind blows dust and debris onto wet paint.
  • A summer storm can roll in on a clear morning.

Interior work is less sensitive, but it still needs doors open and a reasonable space to work. If conditions on the day put the quality or safety of the work at risk, Highness may move the appointment, and we will contact you to reschedule. A moved appointment is better than a rushed detail done in a downpour.

If you have a garage, carport or covered spot we can use, put it in your booking notes. Shade helps with exterior work on hot days, and cover can sometimes keep an appointment on schedule when the sky is unsettled.

What should you do on the day?

A few small things make the visit run smoothly:

  1. Be reachable. Keep your phone nearby around the start time in case we need directions or gate access.
  2. Have the keys ready. We need to open doors, move seats and sometimes roll windows down to clean the glass edges.
  3. Mention anything sensitive. A loose trim piece, a fresh paint repair, an aftermarket screen or a sticky window switch is worth pointing out before work starts.
  4. Keep sprinklers off. If your irrigation runs in the morning, pause it so it does not spray a freshly cleaned car.
  5. Plan for the time. Use the approximate times in the table above. Heavy condition can add time.

When the work is done, look over the car with us. That is the time to ask questions and point out anything you want checked. Payment is made on site, after the work is complete.

FAQ

Should I wash my car before a mobile detailing appointment?

No. Cleaning the car is our job. The only prep we ask for is removing personal items and trash so we can reach every surface.

Do I need to be there the whole time?

You need to be available at the start for keys and access, and at the end for the walk-around and payment. Whether you can step away in between depends on the location, so mention your plans when you book.

What happens if it rains?

If rain, wind or heat would put the quality or safety of the work at risk, we may move the appointment and will contact you to reschedule.

When do I pay?

Payment is made on site after the work is finished.

Ready to book?

Once you know where the car will be and what condition it is in, you are ready. If you are not sure where to start, we usually recommend a Complete Detail, which covers the interior and exterior in one visit. Then book a detail, or call (728) 219-4101 if you have a question about your location first.
